About us:

CommunicateHealth is a growing health communication firm with a passion for health literacy and human-centered design. Our mission is to improve lives by designing health information that’s easy to understand and use. CommunicateHealth team members are committed to this mission —and to helping each other do big things every day. Together, we create inspiring solutions that transform the way people think about health.

About you:

You're a recent graduate or early career professional with a passion for health communication and public health. You're excited to learn about the impact of health literacy and inclusive design and how to bring a health literacy lens to public health education. You are a motivated self-starter with excellent organizational and communication skills.

About the fellowship:

CommunicateHealth's Health Literacy Fellowship is a first-of-its-kind program designed to invite underrepresented early-career professionals to learn about and contribute to health literacy best practices. We are actively seeking applications from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color candidates — our goal is to create career and learning opportunities for people from underrepresented communities who are interested in health literacy. In 2022, we'll welcome our first Health Literacy Fellow(s) to join us in tackling some of the most critical health communication challenges facing our society.

The fellowship will be 1 year, salaried, remote-friendly, and comes with full benefits. We aim to hire at least 2 fellows, and each fellow will have a supervisor and a peer mentor. Fellows will rotate through each of CommunicateHealth's 3 programs, participating in trainings and completing assignments in each:

  • In our Research program, fellows will learn how to engage audiences in a human-centered design process. Fellows will have the opportunity to observe audience research sessions, contribute to development of research protocols, and learn about formative and user experience research methods.
  • In our Health Communication program, fellows will learn about health behavior change theory, plain language writing, and best practices for public health outreach. Fellows will have the opportunity to draft plain language content, learn about content assessment tools, and support health communication campaigns.
  • In our Product Development and Design program, fellows will learn about inclusive design and user experience best practices. Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in design brainstorms, learn about accessibility, and support website maintenance.

What you'll do:

  • Participate in training sessions on a variety of topics such as: plain language writing, inclusive design, audience research, behavior change theory, and more
  • Receive coaching and growth opportunities from staff to help support your career development
  • Develop a thought leadership project and receive support to present it at a conference or submit it to a publication
  • Contribute to health communication product development projects, such as developing behavior change campaign briefs, drafting plain language content, and assisting with audience research studies
