Position Summary

The data analyst will be located within the Epidemiology, Surveillance, & Reporting Unit of the Center for Policy, Planning, & Evaluation (CPPE) within the DC Department of Health (DC Health).  The incumbent will provide support in the routine processing, cleaning, integration, analysis, and reporting of laboratory, infection, and case investigation data collected as part of ongoing public health disease surveillance activities.

Qualifications

Education:       A Master's level degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics from an accredited college/university is required.

Experience:     A minimum of 1 year experience performing data management and analysis duties in a public health setting.

Duties 

  • Conducts routine data cleaning, deduplication, and integration utilizing SAS
  • Monitors and addresses data quality issues
  • Conducts basic descriptive data analysis  
  • Produces standardized data reports documenting data timeliness, completeness, and quality
  • Imports and extracts data from various data systems (e.g., RedCap, CRISP, NBS) utilized as part of disease surveillance activities
  • Matches data across data systems utilizing statistical and/or probabilistic data linkage software
  • Conducts record searches in various internal and external data systems 
  • Performs manual data entry as needed
  • Contributes to the development of strategies for improving data processing efficiency, as well as data completeness and quality 

Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Basic understanding of public health disease surveillance strategies
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of SAS for data management and analysis
  • Experience conducting data cleaning processes (e.g., record deduplication, variable structure and coding standardization)
  • Experience in monitoring and addressing data quality issues
  • Experience in the utilization of statistical software (e.g. SAS) and/or probabilistic data linkage software (e.g. Link Plus, Link King) for conducting data matches
  • Experience in utilizing Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in the utilization (e.g., record searches, data importing, data extraction) of public health data systems
  • Experience in the development of data reports presenting descriptive analyses
  • Detail oriented
  • Effective problem solving skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
