Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)'s Public Health Student Intern Program (PHSIP) provides an unparalleled opportunity for professional growth and development as a public health practitioner.

Accepted students become an ambassador for HRSA's mission in their professional discipline, work setting, education, or community.

Are you eligibile?

We offer unpaid experience via the PHSIP to current graduate and undergraduate students in good standing at schools of public health and public health programs in the United States.

How long is the internship?

Interns complete a one-semester rotation within one of HRSA's bureaus or offices.

What will you do as a PHSIP intern?

Specific projects will depend on initiatives within the office in which we place you. However, the following list provides an idea of the scope and breadth of your work.

  • Support the management of HRSA grants and programs
  • Participate in training and development activities
  • Plan and coordinate meetings of public health experts/practitioners
  • Learn about HRSA's program analysis and evaluation methodologies
  • Shadow and conduct informational interviews with key HRSA staff
  • Apply skills to goal-based projects in the range of competency areas specified by your school's curriculum
