Program Summary

The PHI/CDC Global Health Fellowship Program is a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded program that offers recent global public health graduates from Council on Education in Public Health accredited schools and programs the exciting opportunity to participate in yearlong fellowships with guidance from leading global health experts from the CDC. Fellows are placed in Atlanta and in CDC offices abroad where they will work on the front lines of global health while developing the technical and professional skills needed to make meaningful contributions to today’s global health challenges.

Position Summary


The Recruitment Intern will support the program’s recruitment plan, including the application process for the 2020-2021 application cycle. The intern will maintain and update the recruitment database, screen candidates for minimum eligibility, develop recruitment resources, and reference materials as needed. This is a great opportunity to gain skills and a deeper understanding of a recruitment cycle, workforce development, and working with government-funded agencies and programs in the public health sector.

The Recruitment Intern will collaborate with the program team and will receive guidance from the Recruitment and Fellowship Support Coordinator, who will serve as the direct supervisor. This is a temporary intern position for the winter of 2020 to spring 2021. This position is located in Oakland, CA, and due to COVID-19 will be done remotely.

Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the Intern will have gained experience and exposure to:
  • A full cycle recruitment process to include the implementation of a blind recruitment approach.
  • Presentation of analysis and visualization of applicant data for program staff.
  • The implementation of the program’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy within the recruitment process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Recruitment Database Development and Management (75%)

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a blind recruitment review of applications, through the program’s database CRM platform.
  • Create standard operating procedures and a site map of the application and reviewer process within the CRM system.
  • Assist in editing and testing functionality for reviewer portals
  • Data entry and management of submitted applications and data while maintaining a high degree of data integrity; and
  • Generate reports as needed.

Support the Program’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategy (25%)

  • Conduct research and compile best practices to build upon the program’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy.
  • Update and develop training resources for reviewers to reference to prevent unconscious bias and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion when reviewing applications
  • Compile and report on applicant data and identify gaps, trends, key takeaways, and considerations for the following year’s cycle.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current junior or senior working towards a Bachelors’s degree.
  • Basic knowledge working with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or Human Resource Management (HRM) systems and/or experience maintaining similar databases.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft 365, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated passion for working in and building diverse and inclusive work environments.
  • Experience collecting, maintaining, and reporting data.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Well organized and able to keep track of assigned tasks and deadlines.
  • A self-starter, willing to take ownership of a project and make it your own.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of the general recruitment process.
  • Familiarity with working with Zoom, Adobe Acrobat and Google Suite.
  • A flexible problem solver with experience taking on a task without having all the information at hand.

Important Information

  • This is a 30-40-hour per week position.
  • This position is anticipated to begin as soon as possible and end in May 2021.
