 National Sites Graduate-Level Program Year Intern

 

Location: Los Angeles (Remote position-open to other PHE cities)

Duration: August 2020-April 2021 (flexible start and end date)

 

Description

Peer Health Exchange (PHE) is a national non-profit organization that empowers young people with the knowledge, skills, and resources to make healthy decisions. We do this by training college students to teach a robust skills-based health curriculum in under-resourced high schools across the country. Since our founding in 2003, we have trained more than 8,500 college student volunteers to deliver health education to over 115,000 public high school students in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Washington, DC. In 2016, PHE launched a five-year strategic plan to focus on growing our effective model while partnering with health and education systems, as well as communities, to build a more integrated, sustainable model for health education. You will be joining an incredibly passionate, collaborative, and committed team, working together towards our vision of advancing health equity.

 

 

The National Sites Graduate-Level Program Year Intern is responsible for assisting the National Sites Sites Program team in preparation for implementation of our Virtual Programming including creating professional development opportunities for college volunteers, assisting the evaluation of our program, and program planning. The Los Angeles Program Intern will report to the Director of Sites.

 

 

Compensation

This is an unpaid internship position requiring a commitment of 8-12 hours per week. (You must be enrolled at an accredited university/college for the duration of the internship. Applicants are encouraged to check with their schools to determine if the position qualifies for internship placement credits.  

Responsibilities

The PHE Intern will:

• Assist the PHE program by:

1. Preparing and updating program materials for high school partnership development and volunteer recruitment, selection, and training.
2. Compiling and analyzing data from focus groups completed by PHE staff, Partner High School Students, and PHE college student volunteers
3. Assist college volunteers in supporting their professional development for both fall and spring semesters.
4. Assist in developing strategies to increase retention, volunteer engagement and program sustainability
5. Assisting PHE staff with program research and administrative tasks.
6. Support in planning, preparing leadership (volunteers), and facilitating trainings, as needed, during weekly evening meetings.
7. Identifying PHE focused content for social media.
8. Help plan local program innovation and curriculum development
9. Help with operational planning as it relates to priorities set through 5-year strategic plan.

 

 

Qualifications

Peer Health Exchange is looking for someone who:

• Preferrable is currently enrolled in a Masters in Public Health program at California State University, Northridge or University of Southern California
• Has excellent research, writing, and editing skills
• Has experience supporting or leading evaluation methods
• Has strong facilitation and public-speaking skillsHas strong interpersonal skills
• Is comfortable traveling around urban areas with reliable transportation
