Policy & Advocacy Program Manager – SisterLove 


Position SisterLove, Inc. is seeking a full-time Policy & Advocacy Program (PAP) Manager. This position will lead strategy for organizational policy agenda, educate and engage elected officials, conduct workshops and trainings, and will champion external relations to advance the sexual rights and reproductive justice for HIV positive women, their families and communities. Must approach advocacy as a matter of Human Rights and Reproductive Justice and apply a Reproductive Justice lens in the way SisterLove conceptualizes HIV policy issues and innovates community-based solutions to those issues from the grassroots up. The PAP Manager serves as a primary member of the SLI Leadership Team and serve as a designated organizational spokesperson for digital, written and all other media platforms


Duties and Responsibilities 

Policy Counsel and Advocacy 
  • Educate and engage elected officials, and other key stakeholders through drafting model legislation, resolutions and MOUs, providing testimony, etc. 
  • Lead State advocacy efforts including testimony, and assisting with annual legislative education day  
  • Serve as program manager supervising, leading and motivating policy and legal staff including fellows 
  • Conduct policy research and writing to increase organizational prominence as a thought leader including policy briefs, publications, journal submissions, law review articles, scholastic writing, and white papers from the unique perspective of Black women 
  • Work in tandem with the Health Education Department Manager to ensure cross-collaboration with across programing and with interns; this may include convening joint trainings 
  • Participate in Days of Action on Capitol Hill annually
  • Participate with In Our Own Voice, the National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda, and assist in the publication of policy briefs, roundtable discussions, and policy briefings; including Congressional testimony 
  • Research and support the procurement of funding for policy/advocacy initiatives and projects 
  • Actively engage in extensive coalition work in Georgia, regionally and nationally to assist in the collaborative agenda-setting, campaigns, publication of policy briefs, roundtable discussions, and policy briefings
Administrative 
  • Reports to the Executive Director and Deputy Director 
  • Participate in strategic organization-wide planning and leadership as part of the Senior Management Team  
  • Serves on various SLI teams and committees 
  • Responsible for researching and collecting information from legal, state mandated policy and published information 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree 
  • Advanced knowledge of the Reproductive Justice movement 
  • Superior knowledge and experience with HIV issues 
  • Experience working with people of color and affected communities 
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice 
  • Comfort and familiarity with

This is a full-time position based in Atlanta, Georgia, with an anticipated start date in mid-June 2020. The salary range for this position is $52K- $60K. SisterLove offers paid time off and health benefits to all full-time employees. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this position may start remotely until we can return to work in the Atlanta MotherHouse office.
