Overview:

Through digital and empirical research, ICRW and Quilt.AI are partnering to broaden and deepen national and global discourse on several key issue areas. The collaboration will provide insight and support programming on mutual areas of interest, including health, education, gender-based violence, gender equity and economic empowerment.

To support their collaborative agenda, Quilt.AI and ICRW are seeking to hire three to four enthusiastic and results-oriented part-time Research & Program Associates to play a central role supporting research in one or several of the following issue areas:

• Digital and formative research on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown on families and high school students attending Anacostia High School and living in Wards 7 and 8 of Washington, DC;
• Digital and formative research on technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) to advance knowledge about the impact of extended exposure to cyber platforms and cyber-violence during the COVID lockdown;
• Research adapting ICRW’s GEMS index, which measures gender equity among middle school and high school use, for a new machine learning tool to facilitate analysis of online content; and,
• Digital research on the experience of women working in the formal sector during COVID-19 lockdown in 14 countries, including the US, to understand their lived experience of working at home, the impact of the burden of dependent care (e.g., for children, the elderly, the sick), and their concerns about career trajectories in the new normal.

We are looking for candidates who possess strong research and communication skills, organizational and team skills and who are committed to the principles of gender equity and social inclusion. Successful applicants will have credible volunteer or work experience in the issue areas mentioned above.

The Research Associates will work virtually and be managed by senior researchers out of ICRW’s office in Washington, DC. Employment arrangements will be managed by Quilt AI through its New York City office.

This is a remote, part-time position for up to 20 hours per week through August 30th unless otherwise stipulated.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or enrolled in a Master’s degree program in a relevant field (education, gender equity, women & gender studies, sociology, public health, computer science, etc.)

Experience:

Two (2) years relevant experience in collection, management, and analysis of research data, either as a volunteer or in a professional capacity, working on issues detailed above.

Previous experience in coding, programming, web data extraction, digital research and so on, is highly desirable.

Skills:

• Must be knowledgeable about research design, data collection, and analysis.
• Must be proficient in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), including familiarity with working collaboratively with the online versions of these programs
• Must possess strong skills in writing and editing, and visual presentation of research findings.
• Must demonstrate solid organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be detail oriented, flexible, eager to take initiative, able to work effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines and collaborate well with a dynamic team.
• Must enjoy multi-tasking.
• Must have excellent command of the English.
• Must demonstrate maturity and resourcefulness.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks:

Conduct Research

• Support senior researchers in designing the digital and formative research frameworks as required.
• Support the submission of research protocols and tools for ethical review.
• Conduct literature reviews and compilations of resource material as required.
• Support senior researchers in checking, coding, and cleaning data sets.
• Assist senior researchers in analysing, interpreting and documenting findings.
• Project Management
• Provide programmatic support to senior researchers, including curation of project materials and team communications
• Assist in preparation of funding proposals.
• Identify opportunities and areas for collaboration on the issue areas.
• Knowledge Management
• Assist senior researchers in Knowledge Management, such as, maintaining project files and data bases, preparing briefs and reading decks, etc.
• Draft briefs and notes and develop content for sharing with Quilt AI and research teams.
